MANHASSET, N.Y. — Bell Labs, the research arm of Lucent Technologies, said it has developed a baseband processor for UMTS basestations that supports voice and data signals within a single channel.
STMicroelectronics has announced an MPEG layer 3 audio decoder chip that also includes an embedded ADPCM (adaptive differential pulse code modulation) codec to allow voice recording and playback.
